Project implementation is supported by the Central Financing and Contracting Agency project No. 1.1.1.1/20/A/151 Q4 2021 update
Lightspace Technologies in cooperation with EUROLCDS has successfully finished Q4 of 2021 in project No 1.1.1.1/20/A/151 “Development of miniature next generation multi-focal image engine for application in near-eye display devices”.
Unfortunately,Q4 hasn’t brought any changes in availability of full-color solid state microLED displays and they still remain creatures of research and development divisions, rather than available commercial products or at least evaluation samples. Nevertheless, to fulfill the initial project’s goal, LightSpace Technologies during this period has dedicated efforts on research and development of alternative projector architecture. We are confident that even if corresponding microLED displays won’t reach our research laboratory in the nearest future, an equivalent and in some respects – superior technology will be developed and demonstrated to meet all criteria set in the objectives of the project. A portion of R&D materials for further development of concept projector architecture has been ordered and the corresponding prototyping and validation of physical samples will begin in 2022
During Q4 of 2021 EUROLCDS continued work on diffuser technology improvements at a miniature scale.
The main direct objective of the project is to develop safe3D image recreation technology for head-mounted stereoscopic displays in virtual and augmented reality. In particular developments concern miniature multi-focal display architecture – a tiny multi-focal image engine which can be coupled to arbitrary secondary optics/optical image combiners. Project implementation is planned to be finished by the end of November 2023.
Total planned project costs are 713 721.66 EUR, including ineligible costs 33 537.47 EUR, private funding of204 055.26 EUR, which will be covered by internal resources of the involved companies, and European Union Regional Development Fund funding 476 128.93 EUR.

Project implementation is supported by the Central Financing and Contracting Agency project No. 1.1.1.1/20/A/151 Q3 2021 update
Lightspace Technologies in cooperation with EUROLCDS has successfully finished Q3 of 2021 in project No 1.1.1.1/20/A/151 “Development of miniature next-generation multi-focal image engine for application in near-eye display devices”.
During Q3 the effort of LightSpace Technologies has concerned research of the high-brightness micro-display market and available product lines. Most promising samples of OLED and monochrome micro-LED displays have been obtained and tested within a laboratory setup. While verified solutions do not comply with the needs of the project’s targets, obtained data sets a foundation for further experimental and theoretical research indicative of what will be realistically achievable once full-color solid-state microLED displays become available. Alongside market research and sample verification, work on alternative projector architecture which would meet the project’s targets in terms of image brightness, resolution and footprint are ongoing. Considering uncertainty regarding reduced manufacturing capacities, disrupted supply chains and hindered development, a competitive alternative would serve as a powerful risk mitigation approach to reach the set project’s goals.
During this time the partner EUROLCDS has also been actively involved in project implementation. In the Q3 of 2021 EUROLCDS have been researching diffuser technology improvements at miniature scale – specifically work was done on spacer density optimization. Results are still in the evaluation phase.
The main direct objective of the project is to develop safe 3D image recreation technology for head-mounted stereoscopic displays in virtual and augmented reality. In particular developments concern miniature multi-focal display architecture – a tiny multi-focal image engine that can be coupled to arbitrary secondary optics/optical image combiners. Project implementation is planned to be finished by the end of November 2023.

Lightspace Technologies in cooperation with EUROLCDS has successfully finished Q2 of 2021 in project No 1.1.1.1/20/A/151 “Development of miniature next generation multi-focal image engine for application in near-eye display devices”.
In the first months of project implementation LightSpace Technologies has focused attention on research of micro-display market and available product lines. This activity requires extension, as released micro-displays don’t have full defined feature set and direct negotiations on prototype samples for future research are ongoing with manufacturers. For core research OLED-based microdisplays have been considered. We have started work on integration of available solutions and acquired first samples of OLED to carry on with theoretical and experimental research in obtaining results indicative of what will be achieved when full-color solid-state micro LED microdisplays will be released.
In the second half of the year project partner EUROLCDS will get involved with actions foreseen in the project.
